Description:

According to the US Department of Labor, workplace violence is the third leading cause of fatal occupational injury in the US. However, contrary to popular opinion, the FBI reports that sensational homicides represent a very small number of workplace violence incidents. Many of the more common but less sensational incidents are not reported to the employer, let alone to the police, until they reach the point of actual physical assault.  While the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) states that two million employees are victims of workplace violence each year, it is widely agreed that violence at work is underreported. These statistics may seem alarming, but training on how to recognize the warning signs of violent behavior is a key step toward prevention. Violence can happen anywhere but can be avoided or mitigated through preparation. This training will cover the warning signs of violent behavior, what conduct is considered workplace violence, importance of a workplace violence policy; why employees may not report threats, necessary reporting procedures; responsibilities of supervisors and managers, and prevention strategies (including how to plan and hold termination meetings to reduce the risk of violence).
