Primary Purpose
Operates heavy-duty trucks for the transportation of equipment, construction materials or refuse. Maintain safe and efficient operation of solid waste collection and transport equipment and vehicles.
Essential Job Functions
Inspects trucks and equipment prior to and during operation; performs minor maintenance of equipment including cleaning and washing, flat and equipment repair; performs brake inspections and adjustments; completes and maintains daily logs; prepares reports as needed and reports any irregularities or malfunctions to supervisor.
Transports refuse from transfer station to landfill; operates scraper to haul dirt to cover refuse; operates refuse compactor; operates grader to maintain roads in and surrounding landfill; operates dozer to dig and cover as needed.
Weighs commercial and non-commercial vehicles using landfill and maintains records of activity.
Ensures proper care and follows established safety protocols in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices; maintains radio communication with supervisors, caretakers and other truck drivers.
Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of facilities to include litter, snow and dirt removal; Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner and resolves questions and complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
